Molly Powers Site

Molly Powers is a writer in Brooklyn. Her site had to read the way she writes and earn a reader's trust before it said anything about her, which ruled out the portrait-above-the-fold answer that most personal sites reach for first.

A writer's site has one job that most writer sites get wrong: it has to read the way she writes before it tells you anything about her. Molly needed a home for her work that a reader would trust on sight, and the usual answer, a photo-led personal site with a portrait above the fold, would have argued the opposite case.

Built the site on typography alone, with no imagery carrying any layout. Set the measure for reading rather than for filling a screen, so a paragraph breaks where a paragraph should. Let the page be mostly empty, because confidence in a writer's site is subtraction and every element added is a hedge. Built and shipped in code, live and maintained since.
